The fear is reasonable
Barbers, café owners and restaurateurs are right to worry. A bad bot that fakes a London accent and guesses at a nut allergy is worse than voicemail. Voicemail at least does not invent a booking.
The question is not “AI or not”. It is whether the thing on the line is honest, limited, and useful.
Disclosure is not optional
Ours says it is an assistant when it answers. It does not claim to be “Sarah on reception”. If it cannot do the job — a complaint, a refund, a medical or allergen question, anything it is not confident about — it hands off to a person on your team.
That is also how we run it on our own five-site gym and sauna company in London. Members still get a human for the messy stuff. The AI takes the booking, the reminder, and the quiet-hours enquiry.
What people actually want at 10pm
About 40% of booking attempts in hair and beauty happen after hours. A diner calling a restaurant at 7:40 on a Friday wants the table or the order, not a brand experience. If the line answers, discloses, and does the job, most people are relieved.
The ones who want a person can get a person. That is the handoff, not a failure.
Do not take our word for it
Call the live demo. Book a haircut with it, or place an order with it. If you hate it, you will know in a minute. If you do not, the first build is still free, and day 30 is still your decision.
